Effect of Glucose on Colony Opacity in Vibrio vulnificus

Abstract
The author perform the experiment in order to find out the factor that affect the variation of colony opacity of Vibrio vulnificus which are one of the virulence factors and related to possession of capsule of the bacteria, The author culture the
bacteria in the basic broth media such as peptone broth not include glucose, in the broth media include glucose and observe the variation of bacterial colony opacity on th BHI agar plate medium.
@ES The followings are results.
@EN 1. The variation of colony opacity occurred on 48 hours after inoculation in basic broth media not include glucose and the frequency of variation is 40 to 50 percent. But the direction of variation is unidirectional ; from opaque colony to
translucent one, the reverse never occurred.
2. The variation of colny opacity did not occrred on BHI agar slant medium even during three months culture periods.
3. The variation of colony opacity can not be observed in the broth medium containing glucose because of the bacterial death during 24 to 48 hours.
4. The variation of colony opacity did not occurred in broth media containing 0.1 M PBS and glucose, in media containing fresh human serum and in distilled water of 2.5% NaC1 until 10 days after inoculation.
